Princess Diana: A Hero To The World

Princess Diana was a hero and an inspiration for many people because of her success in changing the lives of people around the world. Princess Diana was a hero because of all the humanitarian work she did to help Britain and its people. Princess Diana changed the lives of many people with her personality and the way that she used her royalty to benefit others.

Princess Diana was born into royalty. Her father was Edward John Spencer and her mother was Frances Ruth Burke Roche. When Diana was younger, she would have play dates with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. She was always around royalty and grew up in the Park House, which was owned by Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Diana became Lady Diana Spencer because her father got the title "Earl Spencer" ("Princess Diana Biography").

Diana was known for having a shy personality, but she liked music and dancing. When Diana got older, she took the title of Princess Diana. Princess Diana started Seeing Prince Charles after a while. On July 29, 1981, they got married. Their marriage didn’t last long after that though. People had said that they both were seeing other people while they were still married and that caused their marriage to end. ("Princess Diana Biography").

Princess Diana thought that the reporters and all the attention she was getting, was the reason that her marriage fell apart. After Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced, Diana started to struggle with depression, bulimia, and she had one suicide attempt. Princess Diana used that to her advantage. She wanted to start to help other women with similar problems to hers. She also started to pay more attention to her sons and not the press as much ("Princess Diana Biography").

One thing that made Princess Diana different from most rulers was the fact that she used her royalty to benefit other people in Britain. She started off by showing that she was more than just another princess and didn’t use her royalty in a selfish way. She showed that she was just like anyone else when she talked about her depression. Talking openly about her struggles was just the beginning. Princess Diana was involved and helped over one hundred different charities around the world. One of her charities was The Diana, Princess of Wales Fund. That fun helped care for dying people, which Princess Diana supported. She also did some work for the hospice movement ("Remembering the People’s Princess").

Princess Diana also helped Britain’s modernization happen more quickly and she did work with the opposition of landmines by taking tours of them. Diana helped to raise awareness about eating disorders and AIDS. She did a lot of work with the National AIDS Trust. The National AIDS Trust helps to find information, teach people, and help to treat people who have HIV/AIDS. To make a point about AIDS, she held hands with a boy who had AIDS on camera and was one of the first well known people to get openly involved with AIDS at that time. Along with AIDS, she helped kids with Cancer, Leprosy, and kids that were in need. Princess Diana also did some work to help the homeless and the poor. One of the things that she did to help the less fortunate was that she went to visit the starving kids in Africa to try and help them and just to talk to them. She was the type of person who wanted to do anything that she could to help people. Princess Diana did mainly a lot of humanitarian work while she was princess. However, she didn’t just inspire people, she inspired fashion too. Her style inspired some of Britain’s most famous designers during that time and every women wanted to dress like her. Princess Diana’s style had an impact on fashion around the world (Mayer).

On August 30, 1997 Princess Diana died in a car crash. She was in Paris with her boyfriend at the time when they crashed. Her boyfriend died in the crash and Diana had serious injuries. She survived, but she was hurt too badly and ended up dying at the hospital. Princess Diana’s bodyguard was the only one who survived the crash. People say that it was caused by them trying to escape the paparazzi that were following them, and others thought that it was done by someone who wanted to kill her. When they did the autopsies of the bodies, they saw that her driver had been drinking. He was two times over the blood alcohol level in Britain, was going two times the speed limit, and was the cause for the wreck that killed Princess Diana. (Tomposky)

When Princess Diana died, everybody was devastated. Her family made a big ceremony for her funeral. She died, but everything that she did to help others was still remembered. They put up an exhibition at the museum of art in Fort Lauderdale and her fashion is still being displayed today. People from all over the world go to see her clothes and remember her. She meant a lot to people and I don’t think she’ll be forgotten (Jephson 79).

Princess Diana meant a lot to everybody that knew her and met her. After she died people talked about all the memories that they had at her. She was a caring person, and from what people said, it sounded like she tried to be nice to everybody. Princess Diana liked to travel and find different ways to help others instead of herself. Everybody that knew her thought that she was a great person and a great princess (King 154)

I think that Princess Diana was an inspiration and a hero. She helped a lot of people around the world and she seemed like she was a very caring princess. All of her charities and humanitarian work helped to change the world. Princess Diana is a hero to me because she inspired so many people and put others first before herself. She will be remembered for her work and even though she died young, I think that what she did will live on.
